John Deere, New Holland and Massey Ferguson. These are well-known names within the industry. Until a few years ago, the agricultural world was relatively new to BAS. Kind of unexplored territory. That does not apply to Thijs Reijnen, our Agri product manager. With 10+ years of agricultural experience under his belt, he is now fielding full force ahead within BAS. His goal: “Get to know the sector worldwide and maximise the growth potential of our trade in agricultural machinery.”
On a journey of discovery
“Delving into machines. And absorb everything about the agricultural sector like a sponge. That keeps me busy all day long”, Thijs starts his story. “After 10 years of selling new and used agricultural machines, the Dutch market no longer holds any secrets for me. It is different on a global scale. Each country has its own climate, soil types, seasons, vision, culture, regulations, and subsidies. You really have to get to know the people, market and circumstances. Together with BAS World I look for growth opportunities to connect buyers and sellers of agricultural machinery. It is a kind of a global journey of discovery in the agricultural sector.”
It really is pioneering
Thijs has been working for BAS since April 2022. It soon became clear that the possibilities are endless. Thijs: “BAS is of course specialised in trade in vehicles and construction equipment. Agriculture is in its infancy in this respect. But that's what makes it interesting. We are pioneering. An agricultural machine is different from a construction machine or truck. You have to deal with very specific regulations and changing circumstances. There are other factors that determine what the actual value is and how quickly you can market an agricultural machine.” “Most of my work consists of making contacts and collecting information. Purely to understand the market. There are a lot of opportunities abroad. We want to identify and seize them. What kind of machines are interesting in Asia or South America, who are the people who buy there? This goes further than just tractors. Also think of field sprayers, forage harvesters, manure spreaders and combine harvesters.”
Hands-on experience
In a specific sector such as agriculture, it is important to have a passion for the industry. Thijs: “Our team is growing, and we are looking for people who want to build with us. It is important that they have hands-on experience in the field. And have a passion for agriculture and machines. You will go on a journey with me to get to know the global agricultural sector in detail. It is anything but a standard office job. You get the freedom to organise your day yourself so that you can achieve results. The BAS family business feels like a close-knit group of friends that wants to make progress. You want to be part of that.”
